Queer Dark Academic
Welcome to My Blog! Where Dark Academia Secret Societies Slay
Hi. I’m an aspiring author focusing on the dark academia literary genre through a queer perspective (queer for the purposes of this post representing those who do not wholly identify as being heterosexual). I’m an academic, reader, and critic interested in the humanities, literature, cinema, television, culture, history and queer studies/representation which this blog will cover.
I am currently finalising a Research Masters of Philosophy in Creative Writing - Queering Dark Academia (in a New Adult fiction context). The thesis textually analyses The Secret History (1992) by Donna Tartt, If We Were Villains (2017) by M.L. Rio, These Violent Delights: A Novel (2020) by Micah Nemerever as well as my own queer DA creative novella: Lost Boys. Once complete, I hope to share more! I’ll also be commencing a manuscript editing and assessment services partnership named Spark the Muse Literary Services as well as continuing as a creative writing tutor.
My overarching goal is to publish both creatively and academically while pursuing a career as a university lecturer in creative writing and english literature. The next step in this dream, is to become a PHD candidate, which essentially requires the traditional publication both creatively and academically.
Not only does Queer Dark Academic refer collectively to my niche interest in said literary genre, it also recognises the seperate areas of interest I wish to explore in this blog:
Queer subjects covering LGBT diverse representation in literature, film, (Asian) BL television & queer history;
Dark subjects spanning gothic, existentialism, occult, horror, obsession & revenge tales; and
Academia subjects spotlighting dark/light academia, pedagogy, publishing, humanities, creative arts, campus life, knowledge acquisition, etymology & mythology.
I look forward to sharing my thoughts on these subjects to engage with you and ultimately form a 'secret society' of like-minded souls in a kind of demimonde :)
